I have been researching the Pers Prop Tax Lists trying to sort out BARTLETTs, and have found the need to learn a lot more about the BERKLEYs - the names were often interchanged, as I'm sure you've discovered.Here is an example for Burgess (all records are in Frederick Co, VA Pers Prop Tax Lists):
Burges BARKLEY
,4 Burgis BARKLEY
,6 Burgess BARTLETT
Burgess BARTLETT 2 tithes - indicates a son prob abt 16; thus b c1791
Burgess BARTLETT
Burgess BERKELEY 2 tithes - maybe another son b c1794
Burgess BURKLEY 3 tithes
Burges BERKELEY 3 tithes
Burges BERKELEY 4 tithes (pays for 3 sons over 16); George BERKELEY
[B]erges BERKLEY 4 tithes;
Burges BERKLEY 4; George BERKLEY; Charles BERKLEY
Burgiss BERKLEY
Burgiss BERKELEY
?
There was also a Charles BERKLEY listed in many of these years...
Did this Burgess come from the Loudoun Co, VA BERKLEYs? Who were his parents?
