Christian Birki, born 14 Jan. 1788 in Bavaria, of Swiss/Italian ancestry, came to America between 1830 and 1840, settled briefly in Butler Co., OH, moved to Tazewell Co., ILL before 1841. Died Groveland, Tazewell Co., Illinois, 14 Feb. 1866. His descendants use several spelling variations including Birkey, Birky, Berkey, Berky, Burkey, Burky and Burkie. I don't know what his relationship was to Valentine Birky/Burkey, born 1794 in France, who settled in Tazewell Co., Illinois in 1849.
