Hi Doris, Here is another record for you. This one comes from the Emihamn database of CD Emigranten, made from registrations with the Swedish port police before leaving Sweden. (The last record, from Emibas, showed his registration to leave the parish, so naturally the Emihamn record is a few days later.) First name: LUDVIG Last name: BERGSTRÖM Age: 18 Gender: M Parish: SKINNSKATTEB(erg) County: U (Västmanland) Port: GÖTEBORG Date: 1881 07 15 (registration date) Destination: BOSTON Fellows: NEJ (Nej = no. He traveled alone on his ticket.) Source: 18:93:13091 This email address can be used to send the Emihamn database information to the Regional Archive in Göteborg (Gothenburg). landsarkivet@landsarkivet-goteborg.ra.se They can provide the name of the "feeder ship" taking Ludvig to Hull, England. He would have then boarded a train to go to a port city, such as Liverpool or Southampton. There he would board the larger ship for the rest of his journey. The Regional Archive (Landsarkiv) will not have the name of the final ship, but they will provide his travel agent and travel agents usually worked with a particular shipping line. That helps limit the choice of ships he would have boarded. Look at this page and click on the very useful links to learn more about emigration from Sweden. http://www.rootsweb.com/~swewgw/Emigr/thEmi00.htm I don't remember if the following page is on the above site. I just rediscovered it and find it very, very interesting. The url isn't working at the moment, so maybe the site is "down". It worked yesterday. (If it still doesn't work after a few days, contact me privately. I've printed a copy and could scan it for you or (preferably) snail mail it to you.) http://goto.glocalnet.net/gbgemi/html/sider/beijbom.htm Judy Notify Administrator about this message?
