My ancestors emigrated from Torsby, Fryksande, Varmland, Sweden in the late 1800's to the Luce County, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan; then some onto Minnesota.

My Great-Grandparents Jon Persson b 1819 m. Marit Andersdotter b. 1823 had the following children:

Anders Jonsson b 1849 remained in Sweden
Marit Jonsdotter b. 1855
Jan Jonssn b. 1857
Olaf Jonsson b. 1859
Jon Jonsson b. 1861

Jan Jonsson came to Newberry, Michigan in March 1892 and died there a year later of Thyphoid Fever.

Jon Jonsson came to Newberry a bit earlier, then went to Minnesota with his wife Johanna and children.

Olaf Jonsson came to Newberry in 1887 and remained there until his death.

My Grandfather Gustaf Andersson came to Newberry in 1892, then returned to Sweden and returned to Newberry in 1903 with his wife Anna and child Oscar.

When Jan, Jon, and Gustaf lived in Newberry they used the last name Bergman. Olaf Jonsson kept the name Johnson. Jan Jonsson is buried in Newberry as Johan Bergman.

I am looking for the descendents of Jan and Jon.

Jan's children are:

Gerda Maria who remained in Sweden
Johan Edvin Jansson
Olaf Anton Jansson
Axel Gunner Jansson
Gotfried Leonard Jansson

Jon's Children are:
Jon
Juilius
Ina
Frank
Clara
Ida

Their last names may be Bergman or Johnson.

And I am wondering why the Jonssons and Anderssons used the name Bergman.

I have a lot of information to share on the Bergmans, Anderson, and Johnsons.

Bob Bergman
