Mrs. Johanna Berggren
Mrs. Johanna Berggren, for more than 60 years a resident of Little Woods, passed away on Thursday, April 23, after many years of Ill health. She had reached the age of 88 years. She was a woman of unusually keen intellect and took a great interest in the growth and development of the community
She was born in Berga parish, Kronoberg's lan, Smaland, Sweden, July 20th, 1842.
She was married to Jonas Berggren in Sweden. The union was blessed with 8 children, 3 of whom with the father have preceded the mother in death.
The Berggrens came to America and St. Charles in 1870.
NMrs. Berggren wa a kind and devoted mother. She has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Wharfield, for many years. Her declining years were made comfortable and pleasant by the unfailing devotion of her children and grandchildren.
She was a charter member of he Bethlehem Lutheran Chruch and of he Little Woods Ladies Aid Society.
Mrs. Berggren leaves to mourn her departure her children: Miss May Berggren, Miss Ida Berggren, Mrs. Ximena Wharfield, Mrs. C.E. Rydquist and Elmer Berggren; three grandsons, nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
The funeral was held last Sunday afternoon at the home. The large crowd and the beautiful floral tributes were expressions of the high esteem in which Mrs. Berggren was held.
