Bergey Book numbering system

There is no system to the numbers. The compiler and historian, Dr. David H. Bergey, my G-granduncle appears to have simply assigned the next higher number to whomever responded with family information.
I am trying, and would love to republish the Bergey book and all of the family lines in it that can be found or respond to inquiries.I have a database now of about 27,000 names with a pile to enter that I think will put me at around 37,000 names. If I were to republish, everyone listed in the 1925 publication would have a new number as the computer assigns the numbers now.
I guess what I'm saying is that I wouldn't worry about any particular numbering system if you are trying to print out your family line right now.
