Irene was my Grandmother. She passed away in August of last year and she was the youngest of the four children. The year before she passed I sat with her to try and get names to make a family tree. She was 97 so she couldn't remember all the small details but she was a wealth of family information. We all wish we were able to get more but none of the grandchildren ever got around to it. So when you emailed me I pulled out the paper with my notes on it and all the names matched. I mentioned it to my mother who remembers a lot and gave me more information. I'm pretty sure it's the same family. The family moved from Quebec to Rouses Point NY which is way up by the Canadian border. At some point they moved down to Macon, Ga for a while, sometime around 1911. That's where Benjamin was a railroad engineer. Many members of the family (I don't know who) became customs agents on the US/Canadian border. I don't know why they changed the name bu there seem to be a lot of derivatives of Bergerone, perhaps it was the thing to do. I might be able to find that out. Lawrence, Frank, Irene did have a sister Etta who my mother told me, she liked very much. Frank wasn't an FBI agent, in fact he couldn't find work at all in Georgia and was a bit of an alcoholic. He ended up living with my Grandmother (Irene) and Grandfather in Paterson, NJ. Apparently it was quite a full house. Amelia lived with them also until she died. She also owned the house. My Grandmother and Grandfather took care of her until her death. Because of this, when Amelia died, she gave the house in Paterson, NJ to my Grandmother and Grandfather. Amelia also owned a large farm up in Albany NY which had a lien put against it for some reason. The falling out you spoke of came because Lawrence felt because he was the oldest that he should have the house. My folks have a photograph of your grandfather in his military uniform in her living room. I will see if she can make a scan if you're interested. I asked about your mother/father because under your Grandfather I had written the names Lawrence Jr.(your father), Ann and Benjamin. My grandmother may have meant Barbara but got confused. I do remember something about Ann dying very early. My Grandmother had tons of family history in her house but once decided to clean out her attic and lost just about all of it. I also don't know if you were aware that your Grandfather committed suicide after discovering he had cancer. Ask your Aunt Barbara what she can remember and maybe we can piece together a family tree. Also, my mother wanted to know if you happen to live in California? Notify Administrator about this message?
