HI Peggy,

the name is quite popular, but Magdalena is a name in our family tree - nee Giess or Bussinger. I can only give original towns of birth in Switzerland for the surname Berger, as the Swiss store tha family histories in each town. You may be best to write to the local civil authorities in Bern if you have specific details back to 1770, or the local churches before then.

The name means mountain dweller in German regions, shepherd in French regions, and is very popular (sorry).

I can send our details in text or gedcom formats - which would you prefer. Our family came from a town of Eiken in Aarau canton.
My branch migrated here to Australia in the 1860's - my great-grandfather Joseph Berger and brother Johann.

If I can help any further, let me know

Yours faithfully,
Peter Berger
