Dear Alexander, I was just googling my great grandfather's name on the internet and came up with your 2005 query. We are directly related. I am the eldest granddaughter of Edward Berg's sister Clara.
I do have records extracted from Sweden and Norway for both Carl or Charlie, as he was called in Kingsburg and his wife. In Sweden he was Karl Emil Berg. He first emmigrated to Ishpeming, MI, and worked in the mines there. After that he left for Kingsburg and helped found the town with three other familes. He left to work in Oakland where he and Emelia worked for the same person as coachman and housekeeper. There is a family tradition that they met first in Ishpeming, where Emelia's family also lived before coming to the West.
Emelia, aka Emily, was born, as you said, in Levanger, Norway. I have her genealogy back several generations, as well as Carl Emil's. If you need anything, please email me directly: I am happy to share my research. I was born in Kingsburg and raised in Selma and Fresno. My mother was a Johnson, daughter of Clara Berg and Viv Johnson.
