Johann Wilhelm b. 1683 to NJ, 1730 to MD (Barrick)

I am not researching this family, but there is quite a bit of information on them in the book "Pioneers of Old Monocacy" by Tracey & Dern, 1987. This book can be purchased from the Frederick County Historical Society on Church St. or the Genealogical Publishing Co., Baltimore.

From the book: "Johann Wilhelm Berg, whose descendants later changed the name to Barrick, was born in Nordhofen in the Westerwald region of Germany on July 8, 1683, the son of Johann Peter Berg. He married Johannata Maria Andreas there on January 11, 1708 and began a family of ten children. The family is not included in the arrival lists at Philadelphia, but it does appear in New Jersey in 1730 when Johan William Berg and his three sons, Johannes, Pieter and Johan (Till), were naturalized by act of Assembly. Although Catharine Berg was in the Monocacy area marrying Peter Habach on November 26, 1738, the first Maryland land record for this family dates from January 22, 1742 when William Berg leased a 250 acre lot known as 'Berg's Delight.' One of the largest lots on 'Monocacy Manor,' it was situated at the forks of Glade Creek and included the present-day intersection of Glade Road and Links Bridge Road, southwest of Woodsboro. It was subsequently known as Lot No. 44 and was tenanted after his death in 1750 by his sons William and Handel Berg."

There is further information.
