Dear Marion, Am responding a wee late. We have written each other before. I am fairly certain my gggfather, John Beresford, came from County Antrim. He first appears in the US 1860 census as being 28 years of age, but I've seen another listing that has him being 38. So his birth date is either 1822 or 1832. His wife's name was Margaret. I think he may have immigrated in 1852 as another Robert and John Beresford buy land in the county in 1852. I think they are our Jefferson County OH cousins (see appendices in the book of the Beresfords for this group--who were originally from Derbyshire, but moved to Ireland, then the US, a John and Matilda, as I remember). Ww seem closely connected to Maureen O'Neill's family as the same surnames Gibb, Moore, Boyd, Hanna appear in our counties, with some fmaily ties. Also many other families from County Antrim moved to Henderson Co. IL. Also see the posting from James Beresford (7/06) above yours. See that Boyd connection, too. Maureen's family comes from the Dunegore area, as I remember, Temple Parish? So do you think the new John Beresford is any connection to mine? Like David Ray, I was told we were related to a Lord.
