Hi Anne,

I don't know if we are talking about the same James Beresford, but a J.B. of Chorlton-cum-Harby near Manchester got a US patent in 31 March 1891. (US patent 449,279 "Material for making wire fences") Basically the patent was for a wire with a triangular cross-section.

I am researching rural fences in Australia, and I am trying to get more details of JB, and I found your post on this forum.

Do you have any more information on him? If you think that "my" JB is one-and-the-same as yours, please get back to me, and I will email you the URL of the patent.

The sort of information I am seeking is: did he run a steel business, wire-works, etc.? If so, what was the company name.

Cheers, John
