Yolanda, thanks for replying. I am not sure if your Pierre would be related or not but there is a good chance he is as my Louis and his brother Pierre were voyaguers and went up and down the Mississippi River for many years. I did notice when I was in Louisiana that there were quite a few LePine's down there. It is said that these voyaguers often had two families one in Louisiana and one in Canada. Louis LePine was born near Montreal in 1788 and his brother Pierre was 13 years older than him. Ihave been unable to find out their fathers name, a lot of the problem being that I cannot speak French and when I was attempting to do research in Montreal, and Ottawa could not get the required help. It is still a bit of a puzzle to me why some of the family took the Lepine name and some still went by Berard , but I am told that it is not that unusual. It would be possible that your Pierre could be the son of Pierre, as Pierre was 25 years old in 1800 and was contracting jobs up and down the Mississippi at that time. Do you know the father of your Pierre? If you have any further information I would be very interested. Regards Lena Gilchrist
