This may not help too much, but as BENZ and BINZ are so alike, and as my great grandfather was BINZ, I looked up the meaning of the name "Binz" several years ago and found it meant "bullrushes". Another part of my GGF's family were RIEDER and the name "Rieder" meant "reeds" or "dweller in a reedy place" if I remember right. Both families came from Baden, in the lowlands near the Rhine River and not far from the Black Forest.
