Dear John:

I am looking for a Mr. Benz who lived in the
Syracuse area either in the late 30's or early 40's.

My great grandfather.....living in Clay, NY;
Cazenovia, NY; and Syracuse, NY.....was named
Welton Benz Ostrander. He was born August 11, 1842.

The family tradition says that Mr. Benz was a good friend of the family, John Ostrander and Lucy Eliz. Hicks Ostrander and they named their son after this friend.

The story also says that he eventually went to California and was in San Francisco during the great earthquake. He started gathering the bricks from the broken buildings, cleaned them, sold them and made a fortune.

I would love to find more about this man.

If you ever hear any clues or connections, please let me know.

Ethel Stanton
