Another deed from Francis L. Benton has come to light thus extending the proof that Francis L. Benton is the son of Francis Benton, Sr. not Job Benton (and Hannah Lynch) as has been circulated.If there are any comments on this Francis L. Benton, I would love to hear from you... please e-mail me.
1813:Francis Benton to Needham Whitfield: " To all people to whom these presents shall come, greetings, know ye that I Francis Benton of the county of Lenoir and State of North Carolina for and in consideration of the sum of five Hundred and Sixth Three dollars to me in hand paid by
Needham Whitfield of the County of Wayne and State aforesaid, have bargained and ... by these presents, bargin [sic] sell and make same unto him the Said Needham Whitfield his heirs and assigns forever two mesuages
[sic], tracts, or parcils [sic] of land Situated, lying and being in the Countys [sic] [sic] of Wayne and Lenoir in the State of North Carolina on the South Side of [the] Neuse River and on both sides of Cones Branch each and joining each other one granted to Edward Carter the 30th day of
September 1785, transferred by his administrators to Owen Daniel and from Owen Daniel to Bibby Bush and from Bibby Bush to Francis Benton, Senior, and given [to] me by his last will and testament, and the other [parcel]
granted to Bibby Bush the 3rd day of July, 1800, transferred by Bibby Bush to Francis Benton, Senr., and then given to me by the last will and testament of Francis Benton, Senr., both pieces of land containing one hundred and fifty acres more or less, beginning at two pines [on] Needham Whitfield's and Jesse Pipkin's corner and runs with Whitfields line So[uth] 40 [degrees] W[es]t35 poles to a Black Jack [on] Whitfield's corner, then with his line [due] W[es]t 280 poles to a pine then [due] So[uth] 80 poles to Bibby Bush's corner, then with his line So[uth] 88
[degrees] East 250 poles to his corner then with his line again, [due] So[uth] 124 poles to Jesse Pipkin's line and with his line No[rth] 12 [degrees] E[as]t to the Beginning which said Francis L. Benton [hard to read last name] is with all the improvements [?] privilidges [sic] concessions and advantages to the same belonging or in any way
aportaining [sic] to the Said Francis Benton, do obligate and oblige myself my heirs, Executors or administrators to warrant, secure forever defend onto him the Said Needham Whitfield his heirs and assigns forever against all persons whatever. In witness whereof I the said Francis Benton have here unto set my hand and affixed my seal, March 1st, 1813.
