Thanks for responding to my inquery.
I don't believe that the Amanda Benton born circa 1845 in McMinn Co, Tn can be the Amanda Benton that married Thomas H. Owen circa 1859 Of Obion Co, TN.While the Arkansas connection is intriguing, my Amanda would have been listed as an Owen in the 1860 census, and I have no evidence at all of her family moving to Georgia.
The only possible Arkansas/Obion Co, TN Benton connection I have is of a Robert Jesse Benton b. abt 1813 Tennessee who married Isabella Edmonds ca 1830 in Troy, Obion Co, TN.I have their known children as James Washington Benton (m. Sarah L. Brown), Louisa Patience Benton (m. McGelby Gaskins), Frank Benton, William Benton, Thomas Hart Benton, and Robert Benton. All these children were born in Obion Co, TN, and I know that Robert Jesse Benton and Isabella Edmonds had at least one other daughter born between 1835 and 1840 (from the 1840 Obion Co, TN census).
Apparently, Isabella Edmonds died around 1850 in Obion Co, TN and Robert Jesse Benton remarried a Martha Johnson (Lockhart from a previous marriage) and moved with his younger children to Craighead, Arkansas around 1857 (about the same time my Thomas H. Owen would have married Amanda Benton and shortly thereafter bore a child in Little Rock, Arkansas).
Could the unknown daughter born between 1835 and 1840 (or other possible later unknown daughters) in Obion Co have been my Amanda Benton?I have no proof whatsoever, but the times and places certainly offer some degree of circumstantial possibility...
Anyway, thanks again for responding.
If anyone can offer any further evidence either supporting or refuting my Amanda Benton's potential connection to either the family of Abner Benton and Mary Ann Wardlow of Dyer Co, TN or of Robert Jesse Benton and Isabella Edmonds of Obion Co, TN, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!
