Lazarus, Epaphroditus and Titus Benton
I'm trying to find as much information as I can on Lazarus, Epaphroditus and Titus Benton, all of which were in the wilds of North Carolina in the early and mid 1700s.I know two were killed by Indians, but did any of these three men have any children with Cherokee women? Are the names of the children by their white wives known? My ggggg grandmother was Fereby Benton, who we suspect was a daughter of one of these three men.On her mother's side she was said to have been Cherokee, and family legends state that her mother was named Fereby Looney and that she died in childbirth with Fereby Benton.Fereby Benton's father supposedly named his daughter after her mother and he may have gave her to others to raise.Fereby Benton was born sometime between 1745 and 1755, I'd guess about 1752, probably in North Carolina or what is now Eastern Tennessee. She married William Vaughan around 1772 and had her first child the following year. The family lived in Virginia, Eastern Tennessee, Missouri and finally settled in Northwest Arkansas.Fereby died in May of 1850 and on the Death schedule for that year is listed as 105 years of age, though we feel her age was about 8 years less then what was reported.I would appreciate any information on the three men, especially the names of wives and children.
