The fact someone in the family "looks Indian" is hardly definitive proof. Family stories are just that, stories. We all have some of those. What Cherokee reservation did they live on, when and where? Are they on the Dawes rolls? I'm sure you are aware that Cherokee removal was in the 1830's. David Harvey Bentley was born in 1847 in Alabama. If my ancestors were native American I would certainly like to know about it as would other descendants.

As I'm sure you are aware good genealogy requires good research and strong proof. I happen to believe there is a relationship between Lebrucy Bentley's family (David Harvey's mother) in Limestone County, Alabama and the family of Jeremiah Bentley in Lawrence County, Tennessee. What I believe and what I can document are two different things. Good genealogy requires more than family stories from ancestors that weren't alive during the period in question. I hope anyone reading this thread will know that.
