Hello Allan, Thanks for the quick reply to my posting and the valuable information from the census data. I really didn't think anyone was "still out there" after all the years have passed by. Some of it fits pretty well, but I am not sure of the connections of some of the others. I'm adding some notes below to either confuse or clear up some points in my head. You may recall that my father, Clyde W. Bentley, was born in 1899, and I was born in 1945 (Patricia L.), so I am not too many generations removed from the early info I have. It is too bad I didn't listen better as a child to my grandparents and father's stories. I am new at this stuff, so may make some boo boos here and there. Can you see anywhere that we might be related, Allan? Thanks again and best regards, Pat Notes on a page found in the Bible are: "Thomas Bentley was born in Washington Co. New York, January 26, 1806. died Boone, Iowa, Oct. 14, 1895. Aged 89 years, 9 months and 18 days." "Married to Paulina Claflin 1836. She died in May 1890 leaving him to finish life's journey alone." "He was the father of 13 children. 9 boys and 4 daughters of whom 11 - 7 sons and four daughters remain. His record is with his God." My grandfather George David Bentley had many siblings, one of whom was called Willie - for William - I believe and Nora that I recall him talking about. His father was Marquis Lafayette (my great grandfather) born in 1842 in Jamestown, New York the Bible says, so that part is not a good fit - says Wisconsin on the census, but the rest is a pretty good fit. He (Marquis L.)was also a harness maker. There are photos and names at the back of the Bible with my Grandfather George D.'s maternal grandmother and grandfather - , Babcock aunts, uncles, and his mother Fannie Babcock Bentley and his sister Elnora(Nora?)Bentley as a toddler. Uncle George B. and Uncle Elmer B. have photos as well - the "B" could be for Babcock as I don't see any Bentleys named Elmer. 1880 United States Federal Census about Mark L. Bentley [Marquis Lafayette] Name: Mark L. Bentley Home in 1880: Boone, Boone, Iowa Age: 38 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1842 Birthplace: Wisconsin Relation to Head of Household: Self (Head) Father's birthplace: New York Mother's birthplace: Vermont Neighbors: View others on page Occupation: Harness Maker Marital Status: Widower Race: White Gender: Male Household Members: Name Age Mark L. Bentley 38 William Bentley 12 Nora Bentley 10 Mrs. Ritche 62 George Bentley 3 I don't think the Thos Bently part fits in. (Is Thos short for Thomas, do you know?) 1860 United States Federal Census about Thomas Bentley is the same as the information I have and he could indeed be my great-great grandfather, and Pauline(a) my grgrgrandmother, but I don't see Marquis L.'s name on the household members list but he may have already left the household since he would have been about 18 at the time of the census. It is interesting to note that Thomas's have listed Paulina as wife, but the children's names don't match up at all. 1850 United States Federal Census about Thomas Bentley Name: Thomas Bentley Age: 45 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1805 Birth Place: New York Gender: Male Home in 1850(City,County,State): Springdale, Dane, Wisconsin Household Members: Name Age Thomas Bentley 45 Paulina Bentley 28 Alvon Done 12 Lavina P Done 10 Margins l Done 8 Adelia M Done 4 Laton b Done 6 Edward G Done 2 Notify Administrator about this message?
