Peter Efford Bentley
To begin, William Archer Bentley and Peter Efford Bentley were sons of Col. William Bentley of Powhatan Co., Va. and his first wife, Judith Archer; and half brothers of Judith Archer Bentley and Henry Moss Bentley, children of Col. William Bentley and his second wife, Lucy Gaines Turpin.*

BENTLEY
"This deed made the 18th day of May in the year of Christ one thousand eight hundred and seven between William A. Bentley of the county of Powhatan on the one part and Peter Efford Bentley of the same county of the other part Witnesseth that whereas our father William Bentley of the aforesaid County of Powhatan did purchase two __ tracts of land in Halifax County lying on Staunton river - - of - of William A. COCKE and the other of James COOKE were executed to ___ the said William A. Bentley - - the particular land - - of - - - - - and recorded in Powhatan County and equally to the law in the case made and presented were transmitted to Halifax Court to be there again recorded with a particular injunction of our said father that I the said William A. Bentley should transfer to my brother Peter one of the titles to this deed and _____ of said - - - purchased of William A. COCKE agreeably to the land prescribed by our said father William Bentley.Now know ye that in perfect conformity to the intent afn incoming of our said father I William Archer Bentley do hereby in conformity to the aforementioned agreement and in consideration for the sum of one dollar in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain sell and deliver into my said brother Peter Efford Bentley and his heirs and assigns forever all or so much of the aforementioned land as lies above the road leading from the bridge across Staunton, which was erected by our father and Edward Mosely of Charlotte Co containing about six hundred acres being the same more or less to have and to hold the said tract of land unto law the said Peter his heirs and assigns forever and I the said Wm. A. Bentley do hereby warrant and defend the aforesaid sales against the claims of all and every person whatsoever.In witness there of I have hereunto my hand and seal the day and year above written."
