Try these thoughts about ole Peter Efford.I believe it was Janet who posted the will of Samuel and tax info. that noted Samuel left to son Efford..., and that he lived with son, Efford...Is is possible that he would have "gone by" Efford with the family?Has anyone seen marriage documents on him to show what was written there? How likely is it that they would haev put Peter on that?I will have to see if I can track down the Univ. of VA record that may give another hint. I can imagine that the military records have his full name.Did the records showing his residence in VA and AL the same year both show Peter?I think that on Samuel's will it was signed just "Efford".
He lived with his son John G. Bentley until he died.I have record of two wives--Markham and Elizabeth Gay.I have that Markham had no children, but that with gay he had William Field Bentley(m.Sarah Dupree and had child Daniel Efford Bentley). It looks like he had another son with her, and I bet the G. is for Gay, making the son's name John Gay Bentley. What do you think of this?
If the soldier Peter Efford lived with a son in Alabama, then that rules out the thought that this Peter Efford was the son of WIllliam and Judith Archer. Their three sons to include Peter Efford, lived short lives and were unmarried.
Just for the sake of turning over any other stones, are thereany other Peter Efford Bentleys of Efford Bentleys that appear in census records around that area?I haven't come across any so far on my end.
