Gabrielle and Everyone,
I do believe that I have found an Amelia Co record that establishes that the William beneficiary of Samuel's will is the William of Powhatan. He is mentioned with Efford to hold in trust for William Winston (wife of their sister Rebecca)land for his four sons.
This is (I believe) from Unrecorded Amelia Co documents (the various documents found in either the basement or the attic if I recall correctly).
"Deed of Trust.William Winston of Amelia Co. to William Benton of Powhatan Co (Va) and Efford Bentley & John Gills of Amelia Co. D March 9, 1791.
Consid: 1 shilling.400 acres in Amelia Co. on Sandy Creek, adj. land of said Efford Bentley, William Ware, William Ward, & Thomas Wright, et al. being the whole of the plantation where said Winston lives, to be held in a special trust.Upon the death of said Winston, the land shall be equally divided between his four sons, Samuuel Winston, John Winston, Benjamin Winston and William Winston, [Jr.].The survivor or survivors shall have power to divide the land equally, or convey the land to any purchaser, and divide the money equally.
Wit:William Ronald, Elizabeth (X) Gills & Phillip Flippin."
If anybody disagrees with me, I'm always happy to debate. These Amelia Bentleys are hard to sort.
Janet
