Thank you for your reply Derek. I would like to find the maiden name of Betty born l796 at Standish. She married John Bentham, born 1792 in Coppul Moor, Wigan. Johns Parents were John & Ann (nee Gooding),thet were married 5/2/1787 at St. Wilfs in Standish. We couldn't locate the birth of John and we were advised to check out Chorley records. We found John in the Baptism Oct. 28th. - John (2son) John & Ann (daughter of James Gooding), Bentom of Coppull, Collier born September 23rd. 1792. Further research turned up James (1st, son) John & Ann Bentom of Duxbury (Weaver) born Dec. 4th. 1787. As you can see the surname is spelt differently which was apparently quite common, also the Father has a different occupation.I would like to build the Family composition of John & Betty, so any help would be gratefully received. What I know of them is in the l861 Census they lived @ 6, Ainsworth Court,with their Son John his Wife Ellen and children John, Peter & Mary A. I will try & locate the Benthams you are seeking on my next trip to Wigan.
