I know that I am responding to your message several years after you originally posted it. You asked for possible sources of information about your ancestor, Catherine Benson, daughter of Johannes (second generation of this family in the U.S.) born in 1695 in Albany, NY. She married Abraham Delameter. By now, you may already know of one of the most reliable source I have found that is relatively available today is the book, The History of Harlem by James Riker, written in 1887. There have been updates to this volume in 1904 and 1909. There is a chapter on the entire Benson family and its genealogy from Dirck Benson (formerly Bensingh), who came from Groningen in the Netherlands and married Catalina Berck, of Amsterdam. This young couple sailed for the New World and landed at New Amsterdam in 1648. Later, the family moved to Albany, where this couple had three sons and two daughters.

I am a descendant of Johannes, the second generation member, and his son Matthew; grandson Benjamin; great-grandson, Benjamion, Jr., and his daughter Harriette Davis Benson. Please let me know if I can help you further.

Madelyn Brite Larkin
