Hope someone can help me with this line.
Robert Houston will dated 25 Apr 1693, probated 20 Jan 1694 lists John Taylor, William Benson and Henry Schoolfield as witness.
Somerset County MD
Robert Houston had a daughter listed in his will as Grace Benston b 5 Jan, 1674.
Robert's wife is named Grace unk. Many believe she is a Benson because of her daughter's name.
Robert, on Apr 5 1666 received 500 acres of land in VA for bring 10 people to the colonies, no land was claimed by his wife, so probaly married after this date as Robert and his wife, Grace appear in court in MD in 1668.
When MD was formed in Aug 1666 some of Robert's land became part of Maryland . In 1668 he recieved 250 acres of land from MD ajoining or near his other land. He also recived land for bring Edward Cooke to MD. The Houston land was located in Accomack County, Va, South side of Pocomoke River, which became Somerset County MD and some of this land later became part of Chester County PA.
So is Grace Houston, w/o Robert in fact Grace Benson? Has anyone any knowledge of her.
In the will of Robert Houston probated June 21, 1720, Sommerset county MD. Thomas Benson is a witness. He made a mark for his signature. A curved hooked vertical line with a small mark on either side of the vertical line. Witness who testified to Robert Houston's soundness of mind were Naomy Vieirous and John Benson.
Are all of the three Bensons William, Thomas and John related? Might they connect to the PA Bensons?
The ten persons Robert Houston claimed land for in VA are Robert Crumpton,Thomas Wanklin, John Vertris, William Grubb,Henry Bainton, John Low, Mary Pithouse, Richard How, James Eveling and Thomas Kent
