Hi Bill BENSON seems to have been a popular name in Sheffield. The earliest possible definite info I have is Reuben BENSON b March Qtr 1849 married Emma CARNALL bc1853 on 27 Nov. 1871. Rebuens parents were I believe Isaac and Eliza NAYLOR and his siblings were Alice b.1855, Kesia b 1856 and James b 1851 who married Elaine WHITE 1873. Rebuen and Emma had the following children, Joseph b1872, William b 1884, Reuben b 1887, Maurice b1890, Henry b 1892, Florence b1894, Ann E b 1897 and Samuelb 1901 and according to the 1881 census were living at 28 H2 Park Hill Lane, Sheffield. On the 1901 census they were living in a boarding house at Millsands, Sheffield which was off Bridge Street. Millsands is still a road but now has office built on the site. Reueben and Sarah had the following children, Winnie b1908, Sarah Ann b 1909 who married my father in law Arthur CHATTERTON, Violet b?, Edward b? Beatrice b 1911, Doris 1914 died 1915, Reuben b1916 who died 1922 after falling from a bridge parapet and Irene b1923. Reuben and Sarah live on the Park estate in Sheffield on Lord Street after their marriage which is where my husband was born. I have more detail info on my website www.junechatterton.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk which you are welcome to look at

Best wishes
