Thanks Brian. Yes it does seem to be difficult to trace over there. I found that there was a family of Bensons in Shankill as was also one of Irvings. I even tried to find stuff from church yards. I presume they were protestant. The birth of Peter in 1809 will be the clue . There's no record of that in Scotland, although they lived there in Gatehouse of Fleet- ( in sight of Ireland) till they split up. Most went to central Scotland but one went to Cheshire in England. My family tree is to be found on Genes United.
