From the information you gave, I suspect that your couple is somehow related to the Samuel Duncan and Enoch Benson families of Greenville Co, SC and later of Cobb/Gwinnett Cos, GA. I do not have this specific couple in my records, however, except for some census notations. (The closest I have is that Enoch Benson, son of Prue Benson, and his wife Jemima had a daughter Arminda who married James A. Duncan, who might be a brother to your Sanford Duncan. James A. Duncan was a son of Samuel Duncan, and I expect Sanford might be another son.)
On the 1850 census, the Sanford Duncan family (he is a SC born farmer, aged 38 on the census) is in Cobb Co, GA, California township, and his wife's name is listed as Armetha, aged 28, b GA. The Ga-born children range in age from 12-year-old Martha, William, Elizabeth, Jemima, Samuel, to a baby Sarah. I don't have the family location in 1860.
In 1870, Sanford Dunkin, aged 50, farmer, listed as GA born on this census, is in Cherokee Co (Bells district), but Armetha is not listed. In 1880 Bells district in Cherokee Co, GA, he is a widowed father in law, listed as age 70, GA born, in the household of James Sargent with wife Ruthy.
I suggest that you look at the Duncan-Benson families in Cobb, Gwinnett, and Cherokee-and also that you try to reach Corinne Johnson Huey, who descends from these Benson and Duncan families. The last address I have for her is corinnejohnsonhuey@prodigy.net
