I would LOVE any/all copies of the pictures of Lawrence!!! It's funny as I grew up in Mass and lived in northern CA for 22 years not even knowing I had cousins within a 20 mile radius!! Of course, now that I live in Florida I can't pick up the phone and call ...... Can the granddaughter Mary in San Diego help track down Michael or Patricia? Which one was her parent? I just started trying to track down family. My mom is 84 and all of a sudden she & my sister got a litte "bee" in bonnet and I got elected. The Benson side was always a mystery as my maternal grandmother never talked about her family. Somehow I stumbled onto Samuel's father on a 1900 Grand Island NE census that said he was collecting a pension. I got a full set of the documents and it did give me a lot of info ..... some of it was very contradictory. Samuel was one of 14 children born to John Benson born c1831 Limerick, Ireland and Ann Agnes Mitchel (unknown dob or place), although only 4 children were living as of 1892. They were married in 1849 either in Pennsylvania, West Virginia or Virginia, depending on which piece of paper you read. Of the 4 living Benson children Mary Ellen was born Mar 16, 1854, (I cannot read place), Samuel Henry on Mar 12, 1860, Shepardsville, KY, John William on Aug 12, 1865, Salem IN, and my g-grandmother Katie on Jan 22, 1868, Nashville TN. It is interesting that Samuel lists his mother Ann's birthplace as Wales. Katie's death cert listed it as Pennsylvania, as did the 1900 & 1910 NE census. Of course, family rumor was she was Welsh, but not necessarily born there. Ann Benson died on Nov 13, 1895, and the father John died Feb 9, 1906, both in Grand Island NE. I am hoping to get copies of their death cert to see IF birth place and dob's are listed. I have not been able to track down any info on the brother John nor sister Mary Ellen. The only thing I know about John is he was in the same army unit as my g-grandfather ... Co K, 2nd calvary. Katie was living with brother John in San Francisco when she married my g-grandfather in 1885. I don't have any further info on Harry as I only found him on the 1920 AZ census. Samuel must have been stationed in California along with brother John, which is how he met and married Mary and why the 1st two kids were born there. I'm assuming Harry was in army during 1910 census as the age would be right. I haven't found any of them on any census prior to 1910. If I find anything more on this line I will let you know. Otherwise I can't wait to see the pics. Thank you soooooo much. Notify Administrator about this message?
