Looking for the parents of Rice Benson J.Rice Benson) who was b. purportedly in TN c. 1813. He was in Perry Co. IL 1831 where he m.Elvira M. TILDEN. His mother at that time was called Mary MURPHY, probably a widow of ___Benson. Other members of the family are thought to be Lewis, who lived Perry Co., Mary, m. Jefferson Doolin, and Elizabeth, m.Charles Buxton. There may have been a Samuel connected.
Rice's wife died 1852, leaving small children and Rice went to CA in goldrush, leaving children in care of the oldest son (who suequently died) and neighbors. His children wee:Thadeus C. b. 1832; Bethia, m.Geo. Baird; Lewis Alonzo m. Martha Hughes;Amanda m. James Howie; John, m. Mrs. Mary Campbell and Harriett m. 4 times.
