A bit late in the day, so I hope you find this...!
My great-grandmother's sister was called Florence Cornelius Benson and was born in Chorlton (NW England). Her father (my g-g-grandfather) was a Joseph William Benson, born in New Orleans to John Benson & Mary Redhols. Joseph and clan eventually decamped to South Shields in NE England.
