The Benson Family of Colonial Massachusetts by Richard H. Benson has now been published by the Newbury Street Press of the New England Historic Genealogical Society. It is available through the Society's book store, One Watson Place, Bldg 4, PO Box 5089, Framingham MA 01701, telephone 1-888-296-3447. E-mail for questions, sales@nehgs.org. The 500-page hardcover, indexed and illustrated book is available for $40 (NEHGS member price $36) plus $4 shipping (book rate) for the first copy, plus $2 for each additional copy.
The book traces five generations surnamed Benson descended from John and Mary (Williams) Benson who came to Hingham, Massachusetts, in 1638. Additional chapters cover Benson families from Kittery, Maine, Salem, Massachusetts, and Newport, Rhode Island. An African-American Benson family of Framingham, Massachusetts, the line of Ezra Taft Benson and unplaced Bensons are included.
It is the result of over fifty years of research covering vital records, wills, deeds, church records, court records, tax lists, Revolutionary War pension files and Bible records. DNA tests were used to try and connect unplaced Bensons. Every fact in the book is documented. All major repositories in the United States and England were visited.
