William Prew Benson born ca 1720-1725 in Stafford Co. Va. died 9 Feb 1792 Greenville Co. Va married Elizabeth Berry dau of Enoch and Dulcibella (Bunberry)Berry. She born ca 1729 in Grayson Co. Va. died 17 June 1813 in Greenville Co, Va. came to Greenville Co in 1791. Children are Enoch, William, Benjamin, Joshua, Thomison, Henry W. Sarah, Zachariah, Francis, Robert, George, Mary and Clarisa. My husband decends thru Benjamin..
Our Oldest grandson is proud to carry the name Benson Peru _____His father, gr-father and gr-grandfather have Benson as a middle name. the gr-gr-grandfather had the given name of Benson _____ He the son of Peru Benson and he the son of Benson. His mother was Frances Benson ____the daughter of Benjamin & Margaret Benson. The children of Frances & John Reasonover were orphans in Giles Co. Tenn. the first Benson was raised by Peru Benson, his mother's brother. As you can see the family is very proud of the name BENSON. William Prue/Prew Benson was the son of Robert & Frances Prou Benson. She the daughter of Cyprian & Margaret (Vensauden) Prou who were married 16 July 1683 in London England. He being born ca 1663 in Poitou France and she born ca 1660 Middlesex, England, How the name gets changed from Prou to Prew and back again is a mystery. Unless it is just a problem of spelling in the records.
