BENSON Family of Barnsley
Surnames: BENSON and HOLLINGSWORTH or ELLINGSWORTH
I have traced back to my g.g.grandparents, James and Rebecca BENSON of 9 Industry Road, Ardsley (locally known as Stairfoot), Barnsley. According to 1881 census he was aged 43 (miner unemployed later to become a bootmaker, 1891 census) and she was aged 44, housewife born in Darlington (maiden name HOLLINGSWORTH or ELLINGSWORTH.) They are shown as having a son named Thomas H. or E. (HOLLINGSWORTH or ELLINGSWORTH). There is a James BENSON died in 1885 that I assume to be my g.g.g.grandfather and born around 1795-1805? I have found John BENSON, wife Anne, who is the father of Ellenor BENSON; she was christened 1st Sept. 1824. Could John be the brother of James? I don’t want to jump to bad conclusions. So at this juncture I am stuck.
Any help would be appreciated.
