Bertil N. Benson, the son of Werner and Esther Pearson Benson, was born September 19, 1928, in Marcus, IA. He attended country school and later Marcus schools. On October 19, 1952, he was united in marriage to LaVonne Jurgensen at the Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus, IA. After their marriage, the couple was involved in farming in Burnsville, IA, area and later south of Paullina until moving into Calumet. He owned and operated Benson Trucking until his retirement in 1985. During his retirement he as a handyman repairing many small items. Due to his failing health, he entered the Millie’s Rest Home in Sutherland, IA on July 7, 1995. He passed away at the home on Tuesday, August 1, 1995, reaching the age of 66 years, 10 months and 12 days.
He was baptized and later confirmed at the Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus, IA.
Bertil leaves to cherish his memory his wife, LaVonne of Calumet; one brother, Paul Benson of Milford, IA; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Hartle of Marcus, IA; also many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services were held August 3, 1995 at Zion United Church of Christ, Calumet, IA with Rev. Cindy Morrison officiating. Final Resting Place - Liberty Township Cemetery, Calumet, IA.
