There was a large group of shoemaker Bensons that came down from MD/DE after the REV WAR (late 1780s) to Rowan Co. From there many continued on west and south. The Benson's listed below predate the MD/DE group but both groups were involved with the Quaker movement and knew each other. I am guessing Mason Benson was from the MD/DE group as it was larger. Thomas (d.1793 Cabarrus Co, NC) and Ann Benson children Robert Benson Thomas Benson Henry Benson Robekka Benson James (d.1779 Mecklenburg Co, NC) and Margaret Benson child John Kerr Benson I believe James and Thomas were brothers. Thomas (d.1793) Benson's original land purchase was in old Mecklenburg Co. along the Cabarrus / Mecklenburg Co line. When James Benson died, Robert Benson was given custody of John Benson (after he was about 10 yrs old). Margaret Benson hung onto the land until John Kerr Benson became of age 21 yrs, then it was his by law. I don't know who she was living with for about 10 years when she was not on the tax rolls or census or who was working the land. I know of Bensons moving to TN, TX, GA, SC. Do you have counties and aprox years? Some moved with Plunkets, Berrys, Halls, Kenneys and others I can't remember them all. There is a large group of Benson researchers I trade info with regularly. I will submit the info to them if I can get more dates, counties and allied families to try to pin the folks down. There is an out of print magazine called the Benson Trace that many are found in if a library in your area has access to it.
