I inherited a pocket watch from my father William Kerwin Benson, (b Detroit, 1909, m D. R. Wixson), his father, William Kerwin Benson, b @1870, m Elizabeth Hamil) and his father, John (Paul?) Benson, (m Kate (Daugherty?)), each born in Ireland before 1850. The watch is enscribe to my father from my g-father and to my g-father from my gg-father. The original inscription is "To John from Kate", dated 1883.

I know very little about the Benson side of my family. My mother says that my gg-father John P. had a son, John, born in Upstate New York or Ontario Province in the 1870's. The family lost contact with him about the turn of the century in Michigan.

I would also like to know more about Ontario, New York, and Irish Benson connections, especially any involving the names Daugherty, Kerwin, or Hamil (also Ireland). My father said the Hamil & Benson families emmigrated from Roscommon and Cork to Canada about 1840/50.
