It's my understanding that the Danes still use the Patronymic practice of surnames, males ending in sen/son and females ending in datter, although in modern times, some have chosen to change their names and/or use the hereditary form. Darned confusing ---was my gg-grandfather, Bent Simonson, Simon ______'s son??? If he had a sister, would her maiden name have been Simonsdatter??? Is my g-grandfather's middle name, Peterson, a clue to his ancestors??? 1 Bent Simonson b. ____, d. ____; m. Hannah ______ b. ____, d. ____. Supposed to have sent son, James, ae abt 21, to ...America to avoid persecution (religious?) during a war in Denmark. Nothing else known about them. Any info on naming practices or my ancestors greatly appreciated! Thanks! "George" jstearns@rconnect.com
