Perhaps if Elaine goes to the site www.archivesofmaryland she will find out why Fleetwood went to another state from Maryland. If his family was not among the founding father and influential families of Md. there may never have been a FleetwoodII and III.He was convicted of being a horse thief in Frederick county and sentenced to death. He was pardoned on account of therequests of the Bensons of annapolis who were high up in government there. While it didnt do much for old Fleetwood we Bensons got a real kick out of it 200 years later when we found out.My aunt always told us to be careful when we went looking for family history."Knowing the Bensons like I do",she said "yuo're bound to find a horse thief".She was a Lee.The funny thing about it for me was that my cohorts growing up were Carr's and there were two Carr's listed in the same court proceedings.I guess history really does repeat itself.Seriously though that website is very valuable especially concerning Anne Arundelco. before 1800.Dan Benson
