Gilbert, The information I posted a few months ago was given to me by Fenton Levanway of Jericho,VT which he'd been given by apparently several other people. This would explain the mix up in the matter of the marriages of Francois Benoit. Your reply to my query has me now wondering which of Francois's wives I'm descended from. You stated that Francoise Dania was his 1st wife and that their marriage was annulled. When and where were they married? Why was the marriage annulled? Did any children come of their marriage? Angelique Chagnon was his 2nd wife. When and where were they married and did they have any children together? The date I was given for marriage was 07 Feb 1710/11 in Quebec.Does this match any of his marriages mentioned above? According to the information Fenton Levanway gave me Francois had a son also named Francois who was born 01 Dec 1711 in Vercheres,Quebec,Canada. This Francois married Catherine Fountaine. Their son Francois Benoitdit Livernois, born 26 Jan 1730/31 also in Vercheres, married Marie Angelique Gipoulou on 20 Oct 1760 in Vercheres.Their son Francois/Francis Levanway was born 24 Nov 1775 in Quebec & died Pipestone,Berrien County,Michigan sometime after 1837. His wife was Marie Josephe Sene. Their son was also named Francis. He was born in Quebec on 12 Oct 1798 and married Relief Bevins. Both Francis & his wife Relief are buried in Milton,VT They were my 3rd great grandparents (on my maternal grandfather's side). Now that I know that this first Francois married at least twice form what you've told me I'm wondering which of these women,Francoise Dania or Angelique Chagnon, was the mother of the Francois who married Catherine Fountaine and therefore is the line that eventually leads to myself. According to the information I was given by Fenton Levanway Paul Benoit was born in 1620 in Chatillon-en- Brazois,Nevers,Nivernais,France. He immigrated from France to Montreal,Quebec,Canada and arrived Montreal in a snow storm on 16th Nov 1653. He was a master carpenter. He married Isabelle Gobinet 16 Sep 1658 in Ville-Marie /Montreal,Quebec. She was born Abt. 1640 in Gonesse en Vexin,Paris,France. She was among the group of French women known as the " King's Daughters". The King of France wanted to colonize Quebec with French families as the English had done in what was to become the United States.Prior to this it was primarily only French men that came to Canada from France. These French women then volunteered to come to Canada and marry French men.Paul died 01 Jan 1685/86 in Longueuil, Chambly,Montreal. Isabelle also died in Longueuil on 03 Apr 1715. According to the info I was given Paul was the son of Francois Benoit & Dimanche Chappelain, both of whom were born in Chatillon-en-Bazois,France. Does any of this match with the information you have? Please et me know if there are any errors in this information. I would very much like to correspond with you through e mails as I'm extremely interested in all the information you have on the Benoits and connected families including the Gipoulou line.I have absolutely nothing on my direct ancestor Marie Angelique Gipoulou.I'd also like to contact the Gilbert Benoit who lives in Vermont that you mentioned.Do you have his e mail address or can you put him in touch with me? My email address is neroots.noreen@gmail.com I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you so much for replying to my post & for all your help. Noreen Notify Administrator about this message?
