Aurélie Benoit [b. 28 Jul 1849 in PQ (never married) d. 18 Dec 1948 in Lawrence MA] is my GGAunt and my GGMother’s sister. They are both buried in the same plot in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Andover, MA. She was the oldest child and daughter of Angele Lapre or Lapres (b. 18 Nov 1818 d. 8 Oct 1906) and Eusebe Benoit [b. abt 1817 PQ, m. abt 1848 PQ d.abt 1897 PQ].
According to the death certificate [d. 9 Jan 1946 in Lawrence MA] of my GGMother (Asilda aka Exilda Benoit), her father was listed as Jean Benoit and her mother as Engle LaPres. Asilda was married to Charles Benoit – I believe it was a marriage of cousins. The death certificates of both Charles and his brother Louis list their parents as Benjamin Benoit and Marie (Mary) Comeau.
I have found Angele Lapres and Aurelie Benoit in the 1901 Canadian Census. That census lists them as mother and sister, respectively, of Alfred [b. 27 May 1966 in PQ, then head of household. From here I am having trouble making any connections. We belive the Aurelie may have had 6 other siblings.
According to the Lawrence Directory, there was an Eusebe Bennoett (Benoit) and a Joseph Benoit that roomed together in 1868-69 and they were again listed in separate residences in 1871. Unfortunately, they do not appear in the 1970 US Census. A Benjamin Benoit lived nearby in 1868-69. Could these be brothers?
I know that oftentimes people used one of their middle names. Does anyone have information on an Eusebe Benoit who might have also been known as Jean Benoit? Does anyone have information that might link Jean/Eusebe Benoit with Benjamin Benoit or Joseph Benoit?
