I think I have more information on James Charles Bennison. He was christened in Newcastle (Staffs) on 31.5.1868 of Alfred and Sarah. In 1881 his occupation is a book binder and he is living in Stoke. Brothers Alfred and Samuel were also christened in Newcastle. By 1875 the family seem to have moved to Stoke. Elizabeth Ann,William, Hannah and Thomas H were from there. I presume Thomas is the one you met - he was born in 1879/80.
I have a possible link back for Alfred senior (though his age in the 1881 census is not an exact match) to an Alfred christened on 19.10.1848 of James and Hannah in Endon - near to Cheddleton and Leek. There are a fair few Bennisons from this area including my ancestor John B. born in 1804 - father unknown. Samuel is a family name also used by my line. Let me know if you want more possible links.
