Thomas BENNEY was my gguncle. His sister, Ellen, was my ggmother - first of James & Elizabeth BENNETTS BENNEY's children born in CA. I have a lot of info on James & Elizabeth and have been to St. Cleer, Cornwall,where they lived and visited the church they were married in in 1840. I also have BENNEYS back past James in Cornwall (but not much on BENNETTS).
James & Elizabeth left Cornwall abt 1848 and first went to Mineral Point, WI. to mine. James was naturalized there and they bought property. Later, James went to the California goldfields while Elizabeth stayed behind to sell the property, but joined John in California by 1855 when Ellen was born.
James died in the Great Flood on the American River in 1862 and his body was never found. Ellen was a laundrywoman in the gold camps to support herself and her children until she married William PARRY in 1870.
