Hi Ms. Benney,

Thank you for your note. Benney is a Cornish name and I believe the particular family I am looking for probably came to California during the Gold Rush. As you are probably aware, the Cornish were renowned miners and emigrated from Cornwall to America, Australia, and South America by the thousands from 1800 to 1850.

The Cornish settled in a number of American locations and worked iron mines in New Jersey, Copper mines in Michigan, and lead deposits in SW Wisconsin in the early 1800's. Later they moved west again to gold, silver, lead, iron and copper mines in Colorado, Nevada, Montana, Idaho, Arizona, Alaska and, of course, California. Where is your Benney family from?

Regards,

Warren Carah
