I'm looking to locate, confirm the identity of, and document the parents of George William Benjamin born Sept 10, 1880 in Pennsylvania and died Sept 29, 1944, St Lawrence County, NY.
George William Benjamin married Mary Rosina Fowler, May 25, 1902, most probably in St Lawrence County, NY. His obit states that he was "son of George and Agnes Benjamin". The obit also states that he was born Sept 10, 1880 in "Montrose, S. D.". In 1880, South Dakota was a territory, not a state. I've looked unsuccessfully for Benjamins to connect in S. D., New York, and PA in the 1860-1880 census records.
As to the location of George and Agnes Benjamin, parents of George William Benjamin, in that timeframe, George William Benjamin had two siblings, Allen P Benjamin born Sept 1872 and Emma B Benjamin (Heath) born Nov 1875. According to their 1900-1920 census records, all were born in Pennsylvania, as was their mother Agnes.
George Benjamin, father of George William Benjamin, must have died before 1894. That's when his wife Agnes married John Shaver (probably her second husband) in Pitcairn, St Lawrence, New York.
My basic instinct suggests that George and Agnes Benjamin and the beginnings of their family should show up somewhere in Pennsylvania in the 1850-1880 timeframe, but I've been unable to find them. Any help with this mystery would be sincerely appreciated.
