I submitted this name for consideration for a separate forum.Paramount among my reasons for so doing was that the Benefield forum seemed to be proceeding toward a primary focus on the southern states.I am a descendant of John Benefiel, b. 1790 in Kentucky, and Mary Spore, b. 1797 in Virginia (present day WV), through their son Hiram.
I agree that perhaps the Stout book contains errors, but if so, let's get the corrected information out there. My "theory" is that at least three of these guys were brothers:George, b. 1759, William, b. 1763, and 'Colonel John', born 1761.William and John lived and died around present day Sullivan county Indiana, while George stayed in Jefferson county Indiana.I do NOT think that there is any evidence to support an Andrew Lee Benefiel as the father of any of these men.
The "Trimble letter", dated 1906, written by a granddaughter of William (1763), daughter of John (1790) said that William's parents were from Scotland.
Let's kick this around a little.
