According to "The Ancient Historical Records of Norwalk, Connecticut with a Plan of the Ancient Settlement and the Town in 1847" by Edwin Hall, Thomas Benedict (1617 - 1690) was the only son of William Benedict of Nottinghamshire, England. William was the only son of another William who in turn was the only son of the oldest William noted in the book. He lived in Nottinghamshire c. 1500. According to tradition, he was the only son as well! citation pg. 308 & 309.
