In my research of the Rupp family of Muscatine, Iowa, my great-grandmother's brother Charles Henry Rupp married Amanda Benedict on 29 October 1875. Information I have on Amanda mostly came from Washington County, Iowa, Funeral Home Records, 1935-1939, p. 62.
Rupp, Amanda (female) - born 12 March 1856, Muscatine, Iowa; died 31 October 1938 at the age of 82 yrs., 7 mos., 19 days; widow of Charles; father: Andrew Benedict (born Harrisburg, Penn.); mother: Sarah Gehr (born Harrisburg, Penn.); last residence: 1708 College Ave., Davenport, Iowa; buried Elm Grove Cemetery, Washington, Iowa
In an 1880 Census for Muscatine County, Lake Township, Charles RUPP, wife Amanda, and son Harry are listed (#128/131) two households after Andrew BENEDICT, wife Sarah, son David, and daughter Matilda (#126/129); and one household after William BENEDICT and wife Mary (#127/130).
Coincidentally, a nephew of Charles RUPP, Eldo C. RUPP, the son of Charles' brother David, married a La Nora Benedict. She was born 25 January 1863 and died 26 April 1956, and was also buried in Elm Grove Cemetery, Washington, Iowa. I have unverified information that her parents were Israel and Sarah Benedict. Not sure who Israel BENEDICT is, though. Could he be a brother to Amanda? Does anyone know?
Do you have a date of death for either Andrew or Sarah BENEDICT?
