I may be able to help you! My great great grandfather is a "Samuel A. Benedict" born in 1828. That is all I know for sure about him although I have found dates to match very recently that he may have been a Civil War vet, enlisted at age 34 in Brooklyn NY, mustered out to Va and promoted to artificer (engineer) according to Ancestry.com data base. His son was a "William H. Benedict" b9-11-1863/d16-16-1928. William H married my great grandmother, Carrie Schildmeier, had a daughter, and then his wife died shortly thereafter due to dipthyria I think. The daughter, Lillian, my grandmother was raised by her aunt and remained an only child. It is my understanding that William remarried and started another family (maybe yours!). My family is all from the Indianapolis area and many are buried at Crown Hill Cemetery! I have only recently gone on line to start pursuing our history since my uncle started it just before his death three years ago. I hope to continue his efforts. Please keep in touch.
